HopeNet of Carpinteria has scheduled a fall workshop for local residents who wish to help those dealing with sadness, despair, depression and suicide. “The Power of a Compassionate Heart: Supporting and Serving Others with Understanding” will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at the Carpinteria Women’s Club, 1059 Vallecito Road. Workshop participants will learn the following: Discovering the transformative benefits of compassion as it relates to self and others, cultivating tools to become a compassionate listener and receiver, understanding the difference between compassion and empathy, and learning techniques to feel understood and to understand. Led by Michelle Villegas, a licensed clinical social worker, the workshop is for educational purposes. It is open to all persons age 14 and up. Spanish translation will be provided.
